Rosette Ornaments

     The Rosette is an impression of a rose. Or in a wider sense, any ornament of a circular shape. Rosettes may be considered either a Free-ornament or a Panel-ornament. In its most famous application, rosettes served as the Boss in the centre of Romanesque and Gothic ribbed Vaultings. Rosettes take on many shapes such as round, oval, square, diamond, or variations of each. They are decorated with roses, acanthus leaf, flowers, and shells. Rosettes are found on Furniture, Gates, Doors, and as the centre pieces of modern Ceilings.
